Adrian Rides the Elephant – Charleston, WV 1965
I acquired this photo years ago from a friend primarily because of the venerable Holley Hotel and Rose City Cafeteria in the background. It floats around my desk and office, getting buried in paperwork and books, only to surface every so often. It always brings a smile to my face.
Taken in downtown Charleston in 1965 this photo has scrawled on the back in pencil:
“When Ringling’s Circus played the Civic Center I rode the lead elephant down Quarrier Street. This was at the corner of Quarrier & McFarland. – Adrian”
